Tradition! TRADITION!

Winter holidays are packed with tradition, whatever your holiday of choice may be.  Growing up, my family didn't have a lot of traditions, but we did have some when it came to Christmas.  Over the years, Hubby, the Things & I have developed some of our own as well.  Between now and Christmas, I hope to explore some of those traditions - old and new.  (Yes, I'm busy up to here, but blogging will be a pleasant break from deadlines, etc.)

I miss my Nana's plum pudding.  OK, I realize that there probably isn't a single ingredient in it that I can eat these days, but as one of the few people in the family who actually liked it, I looked forward to the package arriving every year.  I'm not sure why, but this stuff lasts for ages in the fridge, so it was a little bit of love from Rocky River that went on and on.

I have the recipe for Nana's plum pudding, but it's a family secret, one of those "I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you" things.  If you have a Nana whose Christmas pudding you miss, or if you've been reading/listening to A Christmas Carol, and you want to see what all the fuss is about, check out this Christmas pudding recipe from 21st Century Housewife.  It's part of the "Dickens of a Christmas" blog hop, and it gives me six different kinds of warm fuzzies when I read it.

Countdown  When I was a kid, we had Advent calendars a few times.  I seem to remember they were the kind with the candy in them, but I'm not sure; it wasn't something we did every year.  Several years ago when Thing One was really little, I found this "Christmas Countdown" kit and made this.  It's kinda cheap and cheesy, but the girls love it.  Over time, we've lost a few of the felt pieces and have replaced them with small ornaments from the tree.  'Tis a rare day in December that we leave for school without someone putting up the day's ornament.  As I was purging out some of our excess Christmas stuff this year, the girls insisted we had to keep this.  Of course!  I'm not getting rid of something with so many memories attached to it....
