It may not look like much, but that's over a pound of fngering-weight merino, roughly 2,600 yards (1.47 MILES). The label says it's "irrestringibile", which as far as I can tell means "unshrinkable", which I would take to mean "superwash". The colors are gorgeous, and, being merino, it's SO soft!
Humorous Aside: This is the yarn Bobbi ended up purchasing after she called me from the yarn shop, saying she had "a yarn emergency". She had a terrible time trying to figure out what to get b/c a) the yarn was all so beautiful, b) there was so much of it, c) she doesn't speak Italian, and d) she had no idea what she was doing b/c she doesn't knit. Fast-forward four months to Thanksgiving weekend. Mark & Bobbi are walking down the street in San Luis Obispo when they pass what appears to be a high-end yarn shop. Bobbi admires the window display, but before she can say a word, Mark pipes up with, "NO. You are NOT going in there!" And she doesn't even knit! Bwahahahahahahaha! I guess the poor guy saw the yarn and flashbacks to their hour+ at the warehouse-like shop in Florence. This tickles me to no end. Her husband is banning her from yarn shops, and she doesn't even knit!
As ya'll know, I have been on a strict yarn diet since May or so. The only yarn I have acquired since then has been yarn purchaed with OPM*. Well, once again, I got to go spend OPM on yarn this past Saturday. In honor of Small Business Saturday, my mom & I hit Sonoma Yarn. She needed to get some yarn to make a chemo cap for my Aunt Donna, and, well, I needed to spend the money she'd given me for my birthday. It's an interesting shop to me b/c they carry mostly yarn that my LYS doesn't. I find it fascinating to see what different stores choose from the wide, wide world of yarn to carry in their shops. I didn't want to get something I could just get up the street at Cottage Yarns, so I was looking for something special, preferably local. I found it - some fingering-weight superwash (Do you sense a trend here? I hadn't even received the gift from Bobbi at that time.) that was specially handpainted for Sonoma Yarn.
Behold:

I made a conscious effort to go for colors I don't normally choose. I can't wait to see how it knits up! Good thing I used the rest of my birthday money (plus a gift certificate) to get this to help me figure out what to do with this AND the yarn from Bobbi (click on photo to go to Amazon page):
