Learnings - Some Recent, Some Not So Much

Housekeeping is a weakness, not a strength, for me.  I'm too old to blame it on not having to do chores growing up, so I just take responsibility for it and work on getting better at it - especially in the areas that matter to Hubby.  Since I'm a SAHM, taking care of the home is part of my job description, and I don't want to end up "on probation with an improvement plan", LOL.

Here are a few things I've learned, all of which have helped me a LOT:

  • A clean sink and an empty dish drainer go a long way toward giving the impression of a clean kitchen (much the same as sauteeing garlic & onions in butter makes your kitchen smell like you're cooking something fabulous, even if it's really simple).
  • It sure is pleasant to wake up to a shiny sink!
  • Using the shower sprayer hose thingie to rinse down the shower, tub & shower curtain at the end of every shower keeps the shower & curtain cleaner longer.
  • Rinsing out and wiping down the kitchen sink every time you use it (and emptying the little food trap) keeps it cleaner longer.
  • Roombas are a gift from God.  (Scoobas not as much; they're not as reliable.)
  • (1 Roomba + 1 Scooba) < $marriage counseling$
  • Drying the dishes and putting them away immediately really isn't that bad.
  • Using your dirty bath towel (we wash ours after each use b/c they get smelly, plus we only have room to hang two towels, but there are four of us) to wipe off the outside of the toilet before you leave the bathroom goes a long way toward maintaining some level of cleanliness in your bathroom.
  • The toilet cleaner wands with the disposable cleaner parts are a gift from God.
